Released just yesterday, Cage the Elephant’s third album Melophobia is full of fun melodies and poetic lyrics. Leading up to the release of Melophobia, the band took some time off, and got back together to write the album in August 2012. Upon first listen, the tracks are energetic and highly danceable. But the lively melodies stand in interesting contrast to the lyrics, which are pretty deep and very poetic at times. In “It’s Just Forever,” lead singer Matt Schultz croons:
“Never stop until you love me
Even if you treat me cold
Ill love you till we decompose
And the skin falls off our bones”
The last two tracks of the album, “Teeth” and “Cigarette Daydreams,” are nearly polar opposites. “Teeth” includes a 2-minute spoken rant with an intense musical backdrop. Following Schultz’ rant, the lighthearted acoustic guitar of “Cigarette Daydreams” hits you like a wall of cheery bricks.
My favorite tracks are “It’s Just Forever” and “Cigarette Daydreams”. “Come a Little Closer” is also worth listening to, and has gotten a lot of air time around here lately.
All in all, Melophobia is a great album. I’m giving it an 8.5 out of 10. Let me know what you think!
😀 I didn’t know you still did this that’s awesome!
Love the music video for “Come a little closer.” http://smarturl.it/ComeALittleCloser
It’s pretty good. I can’t figure out what his deal is with shirts though. Maybe he’s allergic?
