A recent submission introduced me to The Mammoth Catches Fire, a young quartet based here in Minneapolis. They released their self-titled debut EP in April and have since been featured on the Local Current Blog and in Rift Magazine. Modest Mouse is listed as a musical influence on their Facebook page, and it shows in their slightly punk, slightly indie, purely rock sound. The guitars shift from fuzzy to crystal clear in a snap, always at the forefront of the group’s tunes. My favorites are “I Feel the Energy” and “Sky Blue.” It’s music that evokes joy in its simplest form, meant to be enjoyed on a sunny summer day with fun-loving friends. Hopefully this gloomy weather hits the road soon so that Mammoth Catches Fire’s energy can be properly enjoyed. Listen below or download the EP from their Bandcamp page, and rock out because it’s Friday and you can.
