Bad Bad Hats, a three-piece band out of the Twin Cities, had me hooked back in 2013 with their first EP, It Hurts. I can’t help but feel like dancing when I hear Kerry Alexander’s light and playful voice layered over acoustic guitars, clapping, and even kazoos. Their song “Super America,” about the gas station chain, remains a family favorite. Needless to say, this trio isn’t afraid to have fun with their music.
Now, Bad Bad Hats are preparing to release their first full length album, Psychic Reader, which will be out on July 17. “Fight Song” is one of a few sneak peeks that have been released, and it seems that the preppy, upbeat style is here to stay. However, their music has matured with them, and their new songs have punchier rhythms and much more vulnerable lyrics. Just yesterday, Spin magazine listed the group as one of their 5 artists to watch in July. I’d say things are looking rather good for the Bad Bad Hats. You can listen to “Fight Song” and “Super America” below, and be sure to check out Psychic Reader next week.
